Dr. Mircea Gogoncea is a guitarist based in Los Angeles. With 113 music awards, he is one of the world's most acclaimed guitarists. He has performed over 450 concerts on 5 continents, and he is the principal guitar professor at UCLA.
In 2022, he made his debut as a composer with a show he wrote for guitar, live electronics and audience interaction. Through this innovative format, he breaks down barriers between performers and listeners, encouraging audiences to engage more deeply.
In 2018, he organized the first classical guitar masterclass and workshop in Lagos, Nigeria. Fundraising consisted of a 7-concert tour of India. The documentary about his journey inspired luthiers to donate professional instruments to the young musicians.
Prior to UCLA, he was Head of Content at tonebase, the world's leading institution for online music education. There, he oversaw strategy, artist bookings, video production and postproduction, while managing a team of videographers, editors, and engravers. Previously, he co-created and hosted tonebase Live.
He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in guitar performance from USC, and 5 other degrees. He graduated with honors from the Advanced Diploma program of the Royal Academy of Music in London and the excellence program Konzertexamen of the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf, Germany.
