Just found out I have been awarded the 2nd prize at the wonderful “Festival Internacional de Guitarra de la Habana”, in Cuba, one of the oldest and most important classical guitar events in Latin America! What an honor! This has actually been my first visit to any part of Latin America, and certainly one of the most interesting trips of my life so far!
(I know, do I say that about all of my trips? It IS what I feel, though…)
In any case, for so many years, having studied under the guidance of a teacher of Cuban origin (Prof. Joaquín Clerch), I have desired to finally get to know this wonderful country in person – and now, it has finally happened!
My trip to Cuba has been made possible partially thanks to a generous sponsorship awarded to my by the Royal Academy of Music’s deputy principal, Mark Racz, to whom I owe this honor.
This was in preparation for my upcoming Final Event of the Advanced Diploma post-master’s course of the Academy, which will take place on in October 2016, and will feature, among other things, music by Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, to whom the event will also be dedicated.
I will be posting photos and impressions from my trip to Cuba on my Facebook page, so make sure to check them out there! If you are not a fan yet, you should follow me at https://www.facebook.com/mirceastefangogoncea/
